Hang Seng snaps a five-day losing streak on a sixth session of southbound buying

Mainland investors bought a net 8.4 billion Hong Kong dollars through Stock Connect. Local institutions were still selling.

The Hang Seng Index closed up 1.4 percent at 17,240, ending a five-session losing run. Southbound flows through Stock Connect were positive for a sixth consecutive day, at a net 8.4 billion Hong Kong dollars.

The composition of that flow is the interesting part. Mainland investors were buying while international institutions continued to reduce exposure, a divergence that has persisted for most of the year.
